Compost Awareness Week

To coincide with Compost Awareness Week, we are selling our Yorganics compost at several household waste recycling centres (HWRCs) in North Yorkshire and the City of York.

Our 100% recycled, peat-free compost is being sold initially at six HWRCs in North Yorkshire and one HWRC in York.

It is available in 40-litre bags, costing just £4 or three bags for £10, at the following HWRCs: Harrogate, West Harrogate, Selby, Ripon and Northallerton. The York HWRC is at Hazel Court.

The remaining sites will start selling the compost later in May. Only card payments can be accepted.

Matt Wilkinson, Yorwaste’s Head of Sales and Marketing, says: “We make the compost from the garden waste that people either put in their wheelie bins or take to the household waste recycling centres.

“It then undergoes a process taking almost three months which transforms it into a compost which meets exacting national standards for quality.

“It is because of the care that members of the public take when recycling their garden waste, ensuring they don’t mix it with any other types of waste, that helps us produce such high-quality compost, so we are delighted to be able to offer it for sale, at a reduced cost, at the HWRCs.”

Ian Fielding, the County Council’s Assistant Director for Waste and Countryside Services, said: “It’s great to see this garden waste being treated locally and going full circle and back into residents’ gardens as a quality compost “

As well as the HWRCs, Yorganics is also available from dozens of local stockists. For more information visit our stockists’ page.

People in North Yorkshire can find their closest HWRC by visiting the North Yorkshire County Council website. Hazel Court HWRC can be viewed on the City of York Council website.
