Edible York, a charity which supports the people of York to become closer to the food they eat, are using Yorganics compost.
SJB Recycling offered the charity 25 bags of its peat-free, 100% recycled compost to use in their gardens, vegetable plots and allotments.
John Cossham, the Founder of York Rotters and a member of Edible York, says: “In 1997 I wrote a thesis about using the green waste of local residents to make a peat-free compost.
“I am therefore delighted that Yorganics has been created and meets the British Standards Institition (BSI) PAS100 standard.
“We are looking forward to using the compost in our work to develop edible gardens across York.”
Michael Wheatley, from SJB Recycling, said: “We like to support local, community ventures like this and our Yorganics compost will help the charity to grow lots of amazing produce.”
